Three are the possible direction that I am indicating in this diagram:1st. Considering the new shape of pasta as an evolution of the first two (orecchiette and pizzarieddhi=maritati). This means that the new shape is conceived as a "son", symbol of fertility, fruit and result of the first two.2nd. Design a shape which syntesises the first two, in a more direct idea of sexuality. An embrace, a warm touch.3rd. Try to take the essence of the shape of orecchiette and pizzarieddhi and provide a tool which make it feasible and easier to make them. Such a third direction aims to keep the shape of the original traditional pasta as much as possible. At the moment I am quite critical towards this point and I am investing more on the other two.

This shapes take inspiration from natural and organic elements, the seeds of pomegranate (which are also often represented in art as a symbol for fertility) and of the pepper.

The first serie is called Ovum. Is a rounded shape with small little dots inside representing seeds (fertility). The serie of Openings and spermatozoon relie on the same idea.

The first example, Unfoldings, opens, letting seeds (I still don't know made of what, pasta, or other matters) spreading through the dish.

The second one, Embedded, is a sphere, also symbol of fertility, recalling the shape of an egg. A seed (pea?) is inserted in the small piece of dough creating the spherical shape and is part of the dish, after cooking the pasta and dressing it with a sauce.

In this very rough experiment I tried to combine the two shapes of orecchiette and pizzarieddhi into one. The result is the imprinting of the shape of orecchietta in the pizzarieddhi.

The shape of orecchietta can be used to imprint on the dough, to make the making process easier. The imprinting can include words, shapes...

Eindhoven. In this blog I am going to post the development in time of the shapes for the pasta I

am designing. The topic for the pasta is fertility inspired by the maritati (married), a special

kind of fresh hand made traditional pasta from the south of Italy. The antropomorphical forms

of such a pasta have a symbolical meaning as a wish for fertility, and should inspire my new

forms. Enjoy!
